This weather system, which registered wind speeds of up to 195 km/h as of 06:00 GMT, is now shifting northwest in the Caribbean and is expected to reach land by early next week, according to hurricane specialists.

Warnings of blackouts and disruption to utilities have been announced as the hurricane produces up to thirty inches of rainfall and storm surges as high as thirteen feet above typical tides. "Seek shelter now," locals have been advised.

The cyclone is the 13th hurricane in the current Atlantic storm period, which normally finishes in late autumn.

This weather system is predicted to pass over Cuba by the middle of the week before traveling via the Caribbean archipelago and emerging into the open ocean.
